Project 1.2.1.1/18/A/006 No 1.22 “Precise positioning of the head-mounted display in industrial applications”

SIA Lightspace Technologieshas successfully finished project “Precise positioning of the head-mounted display in industrial applications” on 30th June of 2022.

The main objective of research is to study application of freely positioned infrared optical cameras for head-mounted display positioning and orientation detection in industrial applications, for usage in Lightspace AR headsets.

During project implementation we have tested 3 and 4 freely placed cameras system combinations and achieved precision in static translation case up to 0,1mm and rotation precision up to 0,1 degree, accordingly in dynamic case – 0,6mm and 0,3 degrees. Due to supply chain issues the selected partner could not deliver another set of cameras we had ordered in time for project.Nevertheless our conducted experiments are sufficient to conclude that such camera systems can be used to track with high precision HMD pose in 5 x 5 m room.

The duration of the project was7 months, starting on December 1st, 2021. The total planned costs of the project are66 492,01 EUR, consisting of 35 739,46 EUR (68,73 %) public funding and 30 752,55 EUR private funding.

SIA Lightspace Technologieshas successfully finished Q1, 2022 in project “Precise positioning of the head-mounted display in industrial applications”.

During this period, we have started modelling various IR Marker rigid-body placements, to ensure required precision for various camera placement distances. We have also designed a single-IR PCB to carry out tests, that will soon be manufactured, and tests will start.

We have also ordered optical camera setup and accessories, from which a part has already been delivered. Ordered cameras will arrive in May, and until that another set of cameras will be used for initial tests, thus we will have tested two camera sets within the project.

To ensure we have time for all the planned precision tests, we have asked for final project deadline extension, which most probably will be approved – at least we were encouraged that project deadline extension for one month is possible.

The main objective of research is to study application of freely positioned infrared optical cameras for head-mounted display positioning and orientation detection in industrial applications, for usage in Lightspace AR headsets.

The foreseen duration of the project is 6 months, which we hope will be extended for 1 month, starting on December 1st, 2021. The total planned costs of the project are66 492,01 EUR, consisting of 35 739,46 EUR (68,73 %) public funding and 30 752,55 EUR private funding.

SIA Lightspace Technologieshas successfully finished first month and at the same time Q4, 2021 in project “Precise positioning of the head-mounted display in industrial applications”.

During this period necessary optical cameras set was selected and already ordered. Meanwhile infrared marker design development is in progress.

The main objective of research is to study application of freely positioned infrared optical cameras for head-mounted display positioning and orientation detection in industrial applications, for usage in Lighstapece AR headsets.

The foreseen duration of the project is 6 months, starting on December 1st, 2021. The total planned costs of the project are66 492,01 EUR, consisting of 35 739,46 EUR (68,73 %) public funding and 30 752,55 EUR private funding.

SIA Lightspace Technologies starts a new research project “Precise positioning of the head-mounted display in industrial applications”. The project is administrated by SIA LEO Pētījumu centrs (Competence Centre of Electrical and Optical Equipment Production Sector of Latvia).

The main objective of research is to study application of freely positioned infrared optical cameras for head-mounted display positioning and orientatation detection in industrial applications.

The planned actions of the project are: infrared optical camera set-up and calibration, design and manufacturing of Infrared marker, validating the headmounted-display tracking precision in static and dynamic scenarios in “industrial-like” applications.

As a result, we expect to create a solution for tracking position of the head-mounted display in 5 x 5 m large industrial-like room, thus enabling the industrial use cases with Lightspace AR headsets.
